Steamfest is spread over a large area of Maitland, with the Maitland Station Precinct being the central event area.
Other areas within the event include the Rally Ground, Railway Street Market, Maker and Merchant, and Show ‘n’ Shine on the Sunday.
Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest 2025 will be held over the weekend of Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April.

The easiest way to get to Steamfest is by train.
NSW Trains will be running additional services to Maitland Station which will place you right in the heart of Steamfest.

For those who can’t catch the train, there are a number of car parks available in Maitland just a few minute’s walk away from the Maitland Station Precinct.
It is free to visit the Maitland Station Precinct, market stalls and entertainment area.
Entry into the Steamfest Rally Ground is $5, however persons under the age of 16 years are free.
If you wish to take a rail journey on a steam or diesel engine then you will need to purchase a ticket, which will be available on our website closer to the event date.
To avoid missing out on your preferred trip we recommend you purchase your ticket in advance.
Any rail journey tickets not sold out prior to the festival will be available to purchase from the ticketing tent located outside Maitland Station over the Steamfest weekend.
There are a range of car parks around Maitland that are within close proximity to Steamfest.
There will be a temporary drop off zone.

Yes, there will be baby change tables located in the accessible toilets at the Station Precinct, Rally Ground and Show ‘n’ Shine.
The finish line for The Great Train Race will be East Maitland Train Station.
The start line for The Great Train Race is Hanbury Junction located prior to Waratah Station.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the Tiger Moth above you as they will circle around the start line prior to the race.
Yes, you will have allocated seating on the Steam Train.
Your carriage and seat number will be printed on your ticket and will match up with the numbers on the train seats.
Steamfest volunteers will be present on the day if you have questions regarding your seating.
Infants under two years of age do not need a ticket provided they sit on a parents or guardians lap and do not take up a seat.
If you choose not to purchase a ticket for an infant they will not be entitled to any inclusions on the specialty journeys.
Once you have your ticket, you will be required to enter the main station platform located next to the ticketing booth (at Maitland Station Precinct) and then will be required to proceed to your allocated platform.
There will be volunteers and station staff there to assist in finding the correct platform.
Unfortunately no, due to the heritage constraints with the rail carriages used at Steamfest there is no provision for pram storage on the trains.
Steamfest has pram storage available at the ticketing tent which is located at the Maitland Station Precinct.

We will have a Wheelchair and Pram storage area next to our ticketing tent that patrons are more than welcome to leave their wheelchairs and prams at.

The best place to watch the Great Train Race is from aboard one of the Steam Loco’s, but if you can’t make it on the train, there’s a number of pedestrian walkways that cross the train line between Waratah and Maitland. Please ensure you remain in public area’s only, outside of the rail corridor.
Information to all journeys will be available on our website closer to the event. Once you have selected your journey you will be redirected through to our ticketing partner’s website to purchase.
Tickets will also be available for purchase at the event from the ticketing tent located outside Maitland Station over the Steamfest weekend.

Concession tickets are for Aged Pensioners, Seniors Card Holders, Government Pension (including people with a disability) and Companion Card (will receive a ticket charged at concession rate, not a free ticket) holders only.
Tickets will not be sent to customers until 2 weeks prior to the event when the final train timetable is issued.
