Maitland City Council is deeply disappointed to announce that the Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest will not proceed in September 2021 due to the recent escalation of Public Health orders affecting Greater Sydney and regional NSW.
Steamfest is Council’s largest event and is loved by so many people in the Maitland community and beyond, regularly attracting crowds of up to 50,000 steam lovers to Maitland.
The decision to cancel this event has not been made lightly, but given Steamfest relies on stakeholders and suppliers from rights across NSW and regularly attracts visitors from NSW and interstate, holding a large scale event is not possible at this time.
In 2021, Steamfest would have celebrated its 35th anniversary, which is a huge milestone for the event and Council’s annual event calendar. The anniversary plans and program that were in place to celebrate this year, will now be moved to 2022, and we’ll commemorate the 35th anniversary of Steamfest on April 2022.
The heart and soul of Steamfest is its impressive assembly of steam trains.
Be part of the annual Great Train Race or take a ride on one of the many unique train trips visiting various Hunter destinations.
See how things were done in days gone by at the interactive Rally Ground display, featuring a vast array of antique machinery from all over Australia including traction and portable engines.
The annual Show ‘n’ Shine is an impressive showcase of motoring history, bringing Maitland Park to life on Sunday 12 September 2021 with over 500 classic cars, food stalls, live music and fun for the whole family.
